At the Institute of Botany and Landscape Ecology, Peatland Science Group, which belongs to the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, there is a job vacancy, subject to the allocation of funds, for earliest possible appointment for a full-time position as
Research Fellow (Pre/Post-Doc).
The position is limited until 30 June 2033. Payment shall be made in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft. The position is also suitable for part-time employment.
The Peatland Science Group works broadly on many key topics of peatland research. In addition to basic palaeo-ecological research, we conduct studies and projects on the sustainable use of peatlands (paludiculture), the recording of carbon turnover and greenhouse gas exchange in wetlands as well as the synthesis of available data on the role of peatlands and wetlands (including coastal ecosystems) in the Earth's climate system. Landscape-ecological peatland and wetland research is based on collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange. We combine basic research with possible applications and practical relevance.
We are looking for a committed researcher for an exciting implementation and research project that will be funded for 10 years as part of the Natural Climate Protection Action Programme. As part of the project, 10 coastal peatlands are to be rewetted.
Tasks:
- Development, organisation and implementation of a monitoring programme to investigate the development of greenhouse gas exchange in rewetted coastal peatlands
- Development of a research profile based on the monitoring data, possibly in inter-disciplinary collaboration with other science fields
- Publication of the results in relevant scientific journals and preparation for a more general audience (outreach and public relations)
Required:
- University degree (Master's degree or comparable university degree in geoecology, landscape ecology, geography, biology or a comparable subject)
- Very good doctorate with a focus on GHG exchange of ecosystems, preferably wetlands or an excellent pre-doctorate research profile in this research area
- By the time employment starts, extensive experience with research projects in the field of ecosystem-based exchange of greenhouse gases/carbon cycle and corresponding publications
- Broad and solid knowledge base in landscape ecology
- Driving licence (at least class B in the German system)
Desired:
- Experience with and profound knowledge of eddy covariance measurement systems
- Extensive experience in the statistical analysis of large amounts of data with open source tools (Python, R, etc.)
- Excellent German and English language skills
- Social skills, especially in dealing with external cooperation partners
- Experience with analyses of the biogeochemistry of wetland ecosystems
This vacancy is open to all persons, irrespective of gender. Severely disabled applicants with the same qualifications will be considered with preference.
