Sustainability in tourism, agriculture, mobility and the production of energy, as well as artificial intelligence as an instrument for more sustainability are some of the topics that will be approached at the summer school. The unique event provides students from all over the world with the opportunity to gain insights into the topic of sustainability from various perspectives and to discuss these with experts from the state’s universities. Talks will approach subjects that demonstrate ways of shaping a sustainable future, including smart bioenergy and waste management, the use of solar energy, and the enzymatic degradation of plastic.

The highlight of the week-long event will be a round table on the topic of ‘Tipping Points for Sustainable Development - A Regional Perspective in MV’ with podium guests from industry and commerce, academia and the general public. They will discuss various aspects related to the potential of and challenges to sustainability in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

At present, 220 people have registered for the event from more than 30 countries. The SustainMV summer school will take place in digital formats on venueless, a platform for online events that brings together communication tools with smart interaction technology.

The state’s universities are also using this joint event to react to the strong restrictions faced by the education sector – particularly with regard to international activities – in these last one and a half years of the global pandemic. The digital premiere of the SustainMV summer school is set to create new standards in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s international education marketing, which are to be expanded upon further in the future. With ‘SustainMV’, the Universities of Greifswald and Rostock, the Universities of Applied Sciences Neubrandenburg, Stralsund and Wismar, and the Rostock University of Music have come together to tackle an ultra-modern topic, at the same time promoting Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a location for excellent education to an international audience.
