If such comments become known, the University will support those affected. In particular, if entries are suspected to be relevant under criminal law, charges will be filed if necessary. This applies in particular when members of the University are affected in performing their work tasks.

In this regard, the Rectorate would like to point out that, in cooperation with the University Computer Centre, the technical and legal possibilities will be exhausted to secure the data of the persons involved. In addition, it is possible for the investigating authorities to work together with other social media operators. If students are involved in a criminal offence, the University has the right to deregister them on the grounds of § 17 (10) Landeshochschulgesetz (State Higher Education Act). The Rectorate urges all members of the University to turn against discrimination in the digital space, to support the affected people, and to ensure further clarification and understanding. No one should tolerate members of the University making suggestive, harassing, or insulting remarks to other members of the University.

  • If you witness discrimination, show courage and position yourself against discrimination of any kind.
  • If someone discriminates against you, take screenshots of it immediately.
  • Use the university offices where you can report discrimination. In addition, use the channel and platform operators’ tools for filing complaints.
  • According to § 9 of the Guidelines against Discrimination of the University of Greifswald, you can make use of counselling services.
