The changes to X – from the algorithmic reinforcement of right-wing populist and anti-democratic content to the restriction of organic reach – make it unacceptable for us to continue our university profile on the platform. In our view, the platform is currently systematically suppressing the values that promote diversity, freedom and science. We are committed to fact-based, open communication in a democratic society governed by the rule of law.
University Communications at the University of Greifswald has not posted any content on X since the end of 2024. Instead, we are increasing our use of the platforms Mastodon and Bluesky, where many of our followers have already followed suit. We will also recommend that all university administrators of decentralised X accounts follow our example. In light of the most recent developments in the social media realm, we will continue to monitor the development of the various platforms we use and their algorithms very closely.
