Scholarships for Foreign Doctoral Students

Applications for funds may be made by the scientific supervisors of the foreign doctoral candidates (in some cases also future candidates). Applications should be sent to the International Office by the 31/10/2017. A first selection will then be made and a substantial proportion of the funds will be allocated. Of course doctoral candidates can contact us at a later date and we will then try to support them with the remaining funds.

The following funding measures can be detailed for each of the years:

• Teaching and research assistance: Employment of foreign doctoral candidates and postdocs for teaching and research support (funds of up to max. € 400/month, based on hourly rates for graduate assistants);
• Limited-term employment of student and graduate assistants for language and subject-specific support for foreign doctoral candidates (funds of up to max. € 400/month, based on the hourly rates of student and graduate assistants);
• Limited-term scholarships for doctoral candidates (aid for completion of studies, supervisory and contact scholarships of up to € 500-€ 700 per month)

The scholarship funds are to be used for the following goals:
1. Completion of studies scholarships: for foreign doctoral candidates who are experiencing difficulties for which they are not at fault, to enable them to finish their doctoral studies (max. duration of funding: 6 months);
2. Scholarships for particular achievements: for foreign doctoral candidates, who take on supervisory tasks for other foreign doctoral candidates alongside their own university work or who are involved in international exchange (max. duration of funding: 10 months);
3. Contact scholarships: for foreign doctoral students, in particular from partner universities, to strengthen the cooperation between the partner universities (max. duration of funding: 10 months).

Please send a letter or email with the details of the doctoral candidate, a short overview of the project, the timeframe of the period of stay in Greifswald, or the desired period of funding. Please note that the doctoral candidates must be very high achievers and also be enrolled as such. If the names of the doctoral candidates are not yet known, applications can be made for N.N., however, they must include the land of origin.
