The collaboration between the University of Greifswald and partners from Hanoi in Vietnam will receive new impulses thanks to the visit from the Rector of the partner university, Prof. Pham Quang Minh, the Vice-Dean for International Studies, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, and the deputy head of the International Cooperation Office, Luon Ngoc Vinh. They were greeted at the beginning of their stay by Rector Prof. Dr. Johanna Weber and the Pro-Rector for International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel, in the University’s Office of the Rectorate.

Talks with with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities are at the heart of the delegation’s visit to Greifswald. Prof. Dr. Margit Bussmann, who undertook a period of research at USSH in autumn 2017, will introduce the guests to colleagues from the Department of Politics and Communication Science. ‘Both junior academics from our Department and I have had very positive experiences in Hanoi.  We are now preparing a joint interdisciplinary conference on topics related to international relations for spring 2019, giving us the chance to conduct joint research,’ says Professor Margit Bussmann.

Prof. Dr. Michael North from the Department of History has worked together with USSH for 15 years and is delighted to welcome his long-standing colleagues to a lecture in Greifswald on the history and identity of Vietnam: ‘Our long, good collaboration is an important component of our research work in South-East Asia that we will of course continue; hopefully in the future together with colleagues from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.’

The delegation is taking part in the International Office’s  International Staff Week. Prof. Pham Quang Minh will talk at International Day on Wednesday, 13th June 2018, at 12.00 p.m. in the Konzilsaal, together with colleagues from Russia, the USA and Greifswald, about the internationalisation of their universities. He cordially invites students and staff members of the University of Greifswald to Hanoi: “Come to Vietnam, study our history and get to know our country (and our food!)’.

ERASMUS Coordinator, Nadine Voigt, emphasizes that the ERASMUS funds that have been obtained for the cooperation with Vietnam are open to all members of the University. Those interested can find out more about a period of stay abroad in Hanoi at International Day.
