Schroeder has been university professor and Director of the Clinic and Policlinic for Neursosurgery at University Medicine Greifswald since 2004. He had provisionally managed the Clinic for the year prior to his appointment. The neurosurgeon was born in Prenzlau and studied in Greifswald. He held positions as junior and senior doctor in Greifswald, before completing his habilitation in 2001.

It is only a little more than a month ago that Schroeder had spoken about modern and less invasive possibilities for removing brain tumours as conference chairman of the annual conference of the German Society for Skull Base Surgery in Heringsdorf.

The International Federation of Neuroendoscopy is an academic society which unites approximately 300 neurosurgeons from all over the world. IFNE’s mission is the worldwide dissemination of endoscopic operation techniques with which minimal-invasive operations can be performed on the head and spine. Numerous operating courses and academic conferences are organised every year under the patronage of the IFNE.
