The festival has been bringing art, music, literature and science in all their diversity to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for over thirty years, creating a unique international atmosphere and a spirit of worldliness every year with a special mix of award-winning stars and surprising newcomers. “The association's commitment strengthens cultural relations with our neighbours and partners in the democratic areas of the Baltic Sea region and demonstrates how culture can foster international cooperation,” emphasised Manuela Schwesig.
Marko Pantermöller and Christine Nickel accepted the award on behalf of the association and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the festival's success for many years, on and off stage: “The joy and commitment as well as the energy they bring with them, is consistently refreshing and uplifting. That is why we are also accepting the award today on behalf of the Department of Finnish and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Greifswald, its students, staff members and alumni,” stressed Prof. Dr. Marko Pantermöller, Deputy Chairman of the association. “We are convinced that everyone who contributes to the festival's success year in, year out is united by the desire for and curiosity about the new, the unknown, the surprising, and the awareness of how much enrichment this exchange brings,” adds Christine Nickel, Managing Director and long-standing Festival Organiser. “This gives us the support, direction and endless motivation we need to continue and maintain our commitment to a diverse and colourful society!"
The festival will commence its 34th instalment under Icelandic patronage in 2025. Numerous guests of honour from the fields of politics, society and diplomacy are expected to attend the opening ceremony on 9 May 2025.
