The University of Greifswald’s Rector achieved an overall mark of 1.94. After exactly one year of office, 72 percent of those who took part in the survey considered Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel to be ‘a very good’ or ‘ideal appointment’ for the leadership role. Moreover, she was the best placed female on the list of 54 rated rectors.

‘I am thrilled to have attained the good placement, which honours the achievements of the entire team of the Rectorate. A sincere thank you must go to the Pro-Rectors and the Acting Registrar for their committed and constructive collaboration, which played a decisive role in enabling the successful continuation of research and teaching in this second year of the coronavirus pandemic and the recognition of the University of Greifswald as a supportive and attractive employer,’ says Rector Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel.

The DHV, which serves as the professional association of higher education professors and lectures, uses its ranking to honour exemplary higher education management. The results were gained from an online survey of its 33 000 members. 4109 academics took part in this year’s survey. The assessment is based on the marks used in the German education system, from ‘ideal appointment’ (grade 1) to ‘worst possible appointment’ (grade 6). The survey assessed universities with rectors or presidents who had been in office for at least 100 days at the time of the survey and who had received at least 30 assessments.
