Mahvash Siddiqui’s visit started with a meeting with Rector Prof. Dr. Riedel, where she found out more about the University of Greifswald. She was particularly interested in research topics, especially One Health. She promised to recommend the University of Greifswald to American academics and politicians on future lecture tours in Germany.
During a talk with representatives from the Department of British and North American Studies, she gave insights into diplomatic service and her tasks as Deputy Consul General. She was very interested in the university’s handling of diversity and encouraged students to visit the USA, to get to know the country and its people and thus overcome any reservations and prejudices.
Ms. Siddiqui finished off her trip to Greifswald with a visit to the Department of Slavonic Studies. This focussed on the work of the Chair of Ukrainian Studies. Here, she was particularly interested in the varying perspectives of the current situation in Ukraine and in Germany. She learned about the German public’s volunteer activities and commitment for Ukraine and received an assessment of the public’s general opinion of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
