A large proportion of the funds is earmarked for the introduction of preparatory and study-accompanying language and subject-specific tutorials for international students at all of the faculties. A further focal point is career-related support and advice. This will be realised by establishing an international career service that will develop and implement corresponding advisory and event formats. These measures will consolidate the ties between higher education institutions, companies and regional stakeholders, making it easier for international graduates to gain a foothold in the German labour market.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has launched its “Campus Initiative for International Talents” in reaction to the dramatic shortage of skilled labour in Germany. The aim is to attract and qualify more international students and PhD candidates as skilled workers with higher education qualifications for the German labour market. With approximately 380,000 international students in winter semester 2023/24, Germany is the third most popular destination behind the USA and the UK.
