Czech author Viktorie Hanišová shall present the German translation of her novel Anežka in a reading at the Koeppenhaus on 18 October 2023 at 8.00 p.m. It is a story about maternal roles and everyday racism that gets right under the skin.
The feature film “Emergency Situation” (Mimořádná událost) by Jiří Havelka will be shown in cooperation with the Filmclub Casablanca in the STRAZE at 8.00 p.m. on 23 October 2023. In a trenchant manner and loaded with black humour, the film tells the story of a train that suddenly finds itself rolling through the landscape without a driver. The passengers who couldn’t be any more different and would usually not speak a word to one another in their everyday lives are forced to work together.
As part of a podium discussion, the historian Zuzana Lizcová (CZ) and the writer and historian Simon Strauß (D) will analyse the current development of schisms in society, elucidating their origins in a round with journalist Tamina Kutscher at 7.30 p.m. on 24 October at the Koeppenhaus.
The new German film “Räuber Hotzenplotz” (2022) that will be shown at the Koeppenhaus on 27 October 2023 at 4.00 p.m. in cooperation with the Filmclub Casablanca remembers Ottfried Preußler, who was born in Reichenberg/Liberec and would have celebrated his 100th birthday in October.
The Czech Culture Days are financed by the University of Greifswald and the Sparkasse Vorpommern, the Literaturzentrum Vorpommern/Koeppenhaus [de], the Czech Literary Centre/CzechLit, and the Society of Bohemian Studies e.V. in Munich, as well as the State Office for Political Education M-V and the initiative Live Democracy: Partnership for Democracy.
