Prof. Dr. Weltmann received the award for his outstanding achievements in the field of plasma research. His work has significantly advanced applications in areas such as medicine, material sciences and environmental technology and is internationally recognised. - Junior Award: PD Dr. Katharina Hoff,Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Greifswald
Dr. Hoff was honoured for her groundbreaking research in the field of bioinformatic analysis of genomes. Her innovative work is making a crucial contribution to improving data processing in medical genetic research and strengthens Germany's position as a leading nation in the field of biomedical computing.
The event attracted numerous guests from academic, business and political sectors. Reinhard Meyer, Minister of Economics, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, opened the event with a welcoming address. He said: “Global markets require an internationally competitive economy. As a result, it is only possible to operate successfully on the international market with the latest scientific and technical knowledge. This also applies to our businesses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. We must cultivate and consolidate expertise in the development of internationally competitive products! This requires fundamental research as well as applied research and development. We have laid the foundation to support research and development in the state. We are today here to honour individuals who have delivered outstanding achievements at the nexus between science and business.”
The highlight of the evening was the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Edward G. Krubasik from the Technical University of Munich and former member of the Central Managing Board of Siemens AG. Prof. Dr. Krubasik spoke on the topic of ‘How does cutting-edge research in Germany stand up to global competition? Objectives - Funding - Realisation - Exploitation’ and highlighted the challenges and opportunities of the German research landscape in an international context.
