This year’s theme is: Wounds of War: Ukraine Two Years After the Invasion. Two years after the start of the Russian invasion and Ukraine’s fierce resistance, a deeply wounded society is slowly beginning to emerge that has to come to terms with the shattering psychosocial, ecological, economic and cultural costs of the war.
These effects of war will be at the focus of the seminars and lectures of this year’s Ukrainicum. During reflection on these issues, participants will delve into experiences made at other locations and in current or recent conflicts, such as the wars in former Yugoslavia and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the situations in Belarus and Israel. The comparative perspective places the war against Ukraine in a transnational and global context and provides insights into the dynamics of modern military conflicts. An assessment of this kind should also stimulate discussions on how to escape the deadlock of military conflicts as well as the future after apocalyptic events.
