FAQ
Student Mobility Internship (SMP): Register directly with the International Office at least two months before the start of the internship, together with the certificate of enrolment, confirmation of internship and details of the period. Further information on internships via Erasmus+ can be found here.
You organize your internship yourself. You have various options for this:
- Make your own enquiries at your chosen institution.
- Find out about partner institutions in your subject areas.
- Apply to our partner universities and partner organizations and browse through our internship offers there.
- Use one of the numerous internship exchanges that the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has collected for you here.
Participation in the OLS test is not required for the time being due to technical problems on the part of the EU and is not mandatory for you.
Nevertheless, OLS language support offers many advantages. The language offers can be used for three years to improve your language skills during and after your stay abroad. Further information can be found here under "Forms to be submitted: Before your stay".
You should also find out what the internship position specifies in terms of language requirements.
Speakers of the national language or language of instruction as their first language are exempt from submitting a language certificate.
Yes, you can. However, you must still be enrolled at the University of Greifswald at the time of application. The planned stay can take place after exmatriculation.
No, you do not have to. If you take a leave of absence for your stay, you will not be able to take any examinations during the semesters on leave. If you take a leave of absence, your semesters will not increase during the period of leave.
Will voluntary internships also be funded?
Yes, it is irrelevant for the funding whether your internship is compulsory or voluntary.
All information on the documents to be submitted before and after your stay abroad can be found here.
You must submit a traineeship certificate and an eperience report.
You will also receive an invitation to the EU survey by e-mail. The sender is: replies-will-be-discarded@ec.europa.eu.

Students with a degree of disability (GdB) of 20 or more, a proven disability or a chronic illness that results in additional financial needs abroad receive 250 euros per month as a grant. A certificate of disability or a medical certificate confirming that additional financial needs arise abroad due to the existing chronic illness is considered proof. The basis for classifying an illness as "chronic" is the "List of chronic illnesses of the Robert Koch Institute".
In addition, students from these target groups can apply for a real costs grant. In the case of funding for real costs, the need is determined with the help of a comparative calculator. Approval is granted for a specific mobility and is based on the calculation of additional needs abroad and only takes into account costs that are not covered by other national bodies (integration offices, health insurance funds, regional associations, social welfare offices, student services).
You can also undertake a preparatory trip. The trips are intended for potential recipients of funding with a disability and their accompanying persons, who need to find out about local conditions (accessible accommodation, conditions on campus, local transport, etc.) in order to assess whether a longer stay is possible. If this is an option for you, please contact the International Office in good time.

“Erasmus not only promotes studying abroad, but also, as in my case, traineeships. With an exchange organisation, I went to Ireland in mid-July 2023. There, I lived with a host family and worked at a Montessori kindergarten (with preschool). (...) For the first time, I could gain an insight into the Montessori sector while improving my English skills. Many people from other European countries worked there, so I had the chance to learn about other cultures as well as Irish culture.” (Katja, Erasmus+ traineeship in Dublin/Swords)
Katja and other outgoers talk about their experiences abroad on our blog Greifswald goes International [de] and our podcast [de].
