Dr. Mandy Roheger studied psychology at the universities of Düsseldorf and Cologne. She received her doctorate in psychology from the University of Cologne in 2019 after spending time doing research in Exeter and Stockholm. Since the beginning of 2020, she has been working at the University of Greifswald in the working group Healthy Ageing and Prevention of Dementia.
‘My research interest focuses on age-related changes to social cognition. Social cognition refers to all those abilities that allow us to understand the feelings, perspectives, and thoughts of other people. The Käthe Kluth junior research group now gives me the opportunity to look at which changes to social cognition occur in the healthy and pathological ageing process and how we can prevent a deterioration of these functions. The long-term goal is then to develop intervention studies to counteract this decline. This research is of utmost relevance for improving the quality of life of those affected and thus to relieve the burden on the health care system through targeted preventive measures,’ says Dr. Mandy Roheger.
As Dr. Mandy Roheger explains, Greifswald provides her with optimal conditions for conducting her research. The award enables her to systematically research this highly relevant field and at the same time gain her first experience in leadership.
The Käthe Kluth Junior Research Group [de] has been awarded since 2007 to support and promote young female researchers with outstanding qualifications. The University of Greifswald provides the award winners with a full-time position for a research assistant and funds to cover student assistants for a period of three years, as well as material costs of up to 15,000 euros per year. In addition, the award winners are included in the University’s mentoring programme, giving them access to specific support.
Käthe Kluth (1899–1985) studied English and German Studies and History in Stralsund and Rostock and received her Ph.D. from the University of Greifswald in 1927.
